the general location of the clans is located in hawaii.

instead of winter/spring/summer/fall, there will be wet and dry seasons. 

all of the trees will be tropical deciduous trees and pines.

the cats that live there refer to the island as Thundering Valley, but when the humans used to live there, it was called Mokupuni o nā kuli, or otherwise known as the Island of Cats. The Japanese have a similar island, only it's called Cat Island. which is basically the same thing.
